Introduction to grief during pregnancy will be Tuesday, February 25th at 8pm EST / 7pm CST / 5pm PST

Research on grief during pregnancy reveals that it can have a profound psychological, emotional, and sometimes physical impact on pregnant individuals. Grief in this context can arise from various situations, including miscarriage, stillbirth, pregnancy loss, loss of a loved one, or unanticipated complications.

Grief can significantly impact perinatal mood disorders, often intensifying symptoms and complicating both diagnosis and treatment. Grief related to pregnancy loss, unanticipated birth outcomes, or personal losses during pregnancy can overlap with, contribute to, or exacerbate perinatal mood disorders like depression, anxiety and PTSD.

Mindfulness and trauma-informed care approaches can help grieving individuals become more comfortable with their emotions and reduce reactivity to triggers. These techniques can ease both grief and perinatal anxiety or PTSD symptoms. Holistic healing modalities and mindfulness techniques are powerful supplements for those navigating grief.

In this workshop we will explore the basics of:

--Grief and perinatal mood disorders
--Understanding grief in birth work
--Grief responses and coping mechanisms
--Self care for the birth professional
--Cultural humility and managing bias
