Welcome To The Birth World, Reborn: A New Tagline For DTI

Welcome To The Birth World, Reborn: A New Tagline For DTI

For years, we’ve said that DTI is “for the modern doula.”

And, of course, that is true—to some extent. DTI is here for future-forward critical thinkers and DTI is committed to creating a birth world that’s no longer characterized by the disparities, inequalities and discriminations of our industry’s past.

But the truth is there is a lot of work to. And that work requires an intergenerational lens. It requires unlearning. It requires creating anew. It requires respecting, honoring and re-learning the stories and ancestral knowledge of those this industry has historically marginalized. It requires creating more room for each other to learn the truth of our bodies. We must be intentional in responsibly building our practice, respecting each other’s familial context and putting the needs of those directly affected by our work, birthing individuals and their babies, first.

So, today, we are proud to introduce you to our new tagline: the birth world, reborn.

We promise that each of our courses will continue to train doulas and birth workers to be:

Human rights advocates. We acknowledge birth as a reproductive justice issue, affected by barriers based on race, class, religion, traditions and sexual orientation. Our community offerings dip deep into historical and cultural context because it matters. Our scholarship programs for trans doulas and doulas of color exist because they need to.

Supporters, not saviors. Our trainings teach you to be present in the birthing room to meet the needs of your clients and facilitate meaningful conversations with the obstetrician and/or midwives, and nurses. We know our stuff—from birth options to the latest evidence-based research—and we believe that the one giving birth is ultimately the decision-maker. Our practice is based on mutual trust. Our doulas trust their clients to make their own informed choices, while clients trust our doulas to provide the unconditional care and support they need.

Practitioners of the Slow Doula Method®. We teach the Slow Doula Method®, which equips those who train with us to navigate today’s birth world. We’re committing to shifting the culture of birthing rooms to meet the needs of clients and facilitate meaningful conversations with the obstetrician and/or midwives, and nurses. DTI birth professionals play a vital and central role in transforming maternity care.

Professional entrepreneurs. Being a birth professional means you’re a giver (that’s a given). But in the process of helping others, we want our doulas to build their own business dreams. We have built into our curriculum business and marketing skills with advanced trainings so they emerge with confidence.

Birth and postpartum experts. The benefits of support during and after childbirth are well-known and well documented. We train our doulas to understand the anatomy and physiology of birth, and the emotional and physical aspects of the postpartum and newborn period.

Modern-day healers. We understand the ins and outs of physical, mental and spiritual health through the prenatal, birth, postpartum, and newborn periods. We encourage our trainees to practice in an integrative and holistic way if they are certified through other healing modalities.

Community-builders. We need each other to thrive. Our energy is focused on building one another up and fostering lasting relationships to advance the birth profession as a whole. As a result all who train with us become members of DTI’s online community.

We believe in the transformative power and impact that well-educated, culturally competent, fierce birth professionals can have on birthing individuals and their families around the world—and we can’t wait to do even more of that this year.

Here’s to a new tagline and another year of growth, discovery and rebirth at DTI!

xo,
team DTI
