Certification Requirements

Full Spectrum Doula Training

At DTI, we certify for life. Any doula certifications you complete with us are maintained by working in the field and continuing education, so you can continue learning in a way that suits you best. This is why we have the DTI membership.

COMPLETE TRAINING (required):

Complete entire online course curriculum, which takes most students about 3 months to finish. This time is supported by live calls once per month with a DTI educator/classmates.

These monthly calls are where you will learn and discuss the core elements of doula work so that you will be prepared to work in the field.

The call schedule will be set during the first week after your cohort launches.

PARTICIPATE IN MENTORSHIP (encouraged but not required):

Participate in virtual discussions throughout your 12 month program, including our private community membership group and live Q&A calls 3 times per month.

These calls are where many of the required elements for certifying listed below are discussed.

START YOUR WORK AS A DOULA INDEPENDENTLY IN YOUR COMMUNITY (required):

Provide documentation of attendance at 3 events as the primary doula, which occur during the certification period only. Documentation may be done either by the forms filled out by the clients you work with, or alternatively by you, the doula.

If you are completing full-spectrum certification, you may substitute one of these 3 required births for another type of reproductive health support: fertility support (before, during and after), abortion support, miscarriage and loss support.

Provide documentation of postpartum care for at least two clients. Documentation may be done either by the forms filled out by the families you work with, or alternatively by you, the doula.

Submit a journal entry from the doula’s perspective on each event (birth or reproductive health) you attend for certification.

Write an essay describing your role as a full-spectrum doula as if you were talking to potential client and or a group of prospective doulas.

Write an essay on how you see yourself making an impact as a doula and in the larger community.

Complete the Required Reading List

Observe and document attendance at a childbirth education class or series.

Observe and document attendance at a lactation/infant feeding support group or an infant feeding class.
