Ethical Responsibilities & Professionalism will be held Friday, June 26 at 12pm EST / 9am PST
In this workshop, participants will understand how HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) applies to doulas and our scope of work.
Workshop goals:
- Identify the key components of HIPAA
- Understand how to identify Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Become familiar with PHI use and disclosure, HIPAA patient rights, and HIPAA security
- Explain the purposes of documentation, including communication, legal protection, and continuity of care
- Receive instructions for completing the Virginia Medicaid Doula Care Form
- Discuss the components of a Code of Ethics
- Explain the value and role of accountability partners in maintaining
integrity and supporting professional growth - Understand what it means to adhere to Standards of Practice
This workshop will be led by Lauren Graves

Trained in employment law, compliance, labor relations, and talent acquisition, Lauren has more than 17 years of experience as a Senior Human Resources Executive and over 12 years working directly in hospitals and healthcare. Trained in 2012 as a childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula, she provides full-spectrum inclusive support to birthing persons, couples, families and individuals seeking education and unbiased training and labor preparation. She is also a mother who gave birth at home, in water surrounded by her very own dream team: her partner, their loving parents, a midwife, RN birth assistant, and an incredible doula.
