Together, we are cultivating culturally humble communities that reimagine the role of reproductive care. We believe that families deserve compassionate, evidenced-based support at all stages of life—no matter their gender, race, religion, class or sexual orientation.

Our Scholarship Program Initiative

We’re committed to lowering disparities in maternal and infant health, and the devastating reality is that race is still a determining factor on whether one has a healthy birth and baby in this country and worldwide. In order to change the landscape of birth for every doula and every person, we provide scholarships for BIPOC doulas.

We are also committed to inclusivity. Birthing people and birth workers are women, trans, nonbinary, or other genders. We know that everyone who gives birth deserves quality care, but issues of gender and identity are still received with much confusion and discrimination within the birth culture. So beyond acknowledging the uniqueness of the human experience, we want to open doors. That’s why we offer scholarships for trans, two spirited and nonbinary birth workers.

As an organization we are committed to offering a minimum of 60 scholarships per year. We meet this goal through our pay-it-forward model, allotting 25% of all full paying members' tuition fees into the scholarship fund.

Who can Apply

Our scholarship program is for anyone who is BIPOC and/or trans, two spirited or gender non-conforming.

If you have already completed an application, you will be notified if a slot is awarded to you. At this time, due to volume we are unable to provide feedback on individual applications.

What does the DTI scholarship include?

Applicants chosen for a scholarship are still responsible for paying the DTI annual membership fee the first year they are in the program. After that point, they can opt out or opt in. Scholarship applicants selected to receive a scholarship will be notified four weeks in advance of their training date via email. The selected scholarship applicant has 48 hours to accept their scholarship; if they have not registered for the course within the 48 hours, another scholarship applicant will be selected and notified promptly. Once all scholarships have been allotted for a training date, an email will be sent to scholarship applicants notifying them the selected training date scholarships have been allocated.

Become a Community Partner

The DTI team works to create community partners at local and global levels to support other efforts that align with our reproductive health mission.

Every year DTI allocates a minimum of $5,000 to sponsor community partners, campaigns and BIPOC midwifery student funds. Each year DTI hopes to be able to increase resources to put back into community partners by allocating student tuition, selling merch from the DTI shop and membership fees. If you are looking for support and want to share what you are doing in your community use the DTI platform.
