Common Questions About Our Trainings
When are the upcoming virtual classes?
- The full class series will cycle through every 3 months. It will repeat again in roughly the same order.
- If you miss a session, watch the replay or catch the next one live!
- Students have 24/7 access to their course modules, which cover the same topics formatted for self-paced, solo learning, with short, digestible lessons for an optimal experience.
What's included in the training?
- Comprehensive course lessons, self-paced: Course Overview
- Live training sessions guided by experienced educators on each and every topic
- 1 year of membership with doula resources, renewable for $220/yr. or $19.99/mo. after that
- Access to virtual doula-to-doula support each month for community and connection
- A retreat-style workshop, if attending in person
- DTI Digital Guides to help you through your training and to use with clients
- DTI Certification Guide
- Certification for life. Once you are certified through DTI, you never have to recertify!
What's the difference between online and in person?
When you register for any DTI full-spectrum training, you gain access to our full suite of courses and resources, plus the flexibility to complete your certification on any timetable that works for you, provided you remain a current member.
If you sign up to attend in person, you'll also be joining a cohort of doulas for a special retreat-style experience.
Both options have their pros & cons.
- In person provides inspiration and a special energy.
- Online offers flexibility, a relaxed pace, the comfort of home, and affordability.
- In person is more expensive and requires commitment to 4 days, 9am to 5pm.
- Online, it may be challenging to join live for all of the virtual classes you wish to be a part of, however you can stay in the program for as long as you need to. Our class cycle repeats frequently.
To help mitigate these concerns:
- We provide self-paced modules and virtual calls to in-person trainees too. Your learning journey doesn't need to end after just 4 days! You'll be able to deepen your learning as time goes by.
- We offer a mix of day & evening times as well as an extensive library of recorded calls.
- Our community platform and Find a Doula directory offer opportunities to get together with other DTI doulas in your area.
- Our educators are skilled at facilitating warmth and connection, whether virtual or in person.
We hope to meet you soon! Book a Free Discovery Call with our friendly program specialist if you still have questions.
How long is the training?
DTI's training allows you to begin your work and complete certification any time you are ready.
- A DTI in-person training is complete after a 4-day intensive format. You will need to be available 9am to 5pm each day.
- A DTI online course can be completed in roughly 1 semester, or 3 months
If you wish to advance at this pace through the modules, we recommend devoting a minimum of 1-2 hours, 2x per week to focus on completing the course lessons and required readings. But it's certainly OK if you take longer!
Your training includes a top-quality curriculum, including Cultural Humility, our Slow Doula Method,® DTI's core concepts and all the how-tos of managing a doula business, supported by live calls with a DTI educator.
Please Contact Us if you have any further questions! Our team is happy to help.
When do I need to finish?
You will have access to your online course modules for as long you need them. There are no deadlines to certify. Just keep your membership current. One year of membership is included in your tuition cost.
How does certification work?
To certify as a doula with DTI, you will begin working rather quickly to gain first-hand experience in the field. By applying what you learned during your training, you will jump right into the role of the doula with confidence! You will gather valuable feedback from the first clients you support, reflecting on these experiences as you continue to grow and learn.
Although we don't match you directly with clients, we offer a lot of support for you in this process. Certification is by and large a process of becoming well-connected in your local area. Word-of-mouth is one of the doula's most useful tools. We recommend playing to your strengths:
- Love talking to people? Network, network, network!
- Are you a writer? Focus on building a website that really speaks to your ideal client.
- A whiz at marketing? Pick a social media channel and build your following.
None of these your jam? We'll work with you to help you determine other ways of gaining your first clients.
How large are DTI classes?
We prioritize connection and community in our trainings which is why our groups are intentionally small. You'll attend classes with no more than 10 other aspiring doulas to ensure you get 1:1 attention with your instructor and peers.
